Freediver (Open Water Dives)
This course provides all the open water dives required to complete your open water freediving certification.

When you become an SSI Freediver, you open the door to worldwide freediving opportunities. Learning to freedive with SSI is easier than you think.
In this program, students who have completed their required academic and pool training will engage in their open water freediving experiences. Students will continue to build on their freediving skills in a supervised open water environment. Once certified, students can freedive with a buddy in open water up to a depth of 20 meters and explore a variety of stunning underwater ecosystems around the world.
Ages: 12+
Required Swim Ability: Be able to swim a distance of 100 meters without any swim or buoyancy aids.
Session Length: Two, 3-hour open water dives sessions with supervision. Student to Instructor Ratio is 4:1.
Gear needed for class: Freediving gear is recommended for pool sessions and open water, so you can properly train wearing the required gear. Below we outline the minimum gear requirements and recommended upgrades. Contact us for details.
- Low-volume mask,
- Snorkel with figure-8 clip,
- Fins (freediving fins with neoprene socks recommended),
- Wetsuit and Wetsuit Hood (freediving wetsuit recommended)
- Rubber Weight Belt
- Freediving Lanyard
- Freediving Computer (optional)

Certification: At the successful completion of these open water sessions (meeting all performance requirements), students will be issued a Freediver certification. Certified Freedivers can freedive with a buddy in open water up to a depth of 20 meters and explore a variety of stunning underwater ecosystems around the world.
